Gators didn't take care of business

With only one game standing in their way between the national championship game, the Gators just did not take care of business. You have to give credit to Alabama, but you still wonder what happened to the best defense in the country! Gatorsports interviewed several players and this article gives some perspective to the game and the past year. Click to read more....

Congrats to the Gators for winning two National Championships in four years, and for maintaining a 22-0 record going into the SEC championship game. The "Gator nation" of fans is just not used to losing! We can look forward to a win at the Sugar Bowl game as the Gators will face the Big East Champs - Cincinnati Bearcats in New Orleans - January 1, 2010 at 8:30 pm.

Tebow selected as Heisman candidate for the third time!

Tebow won the Heisman Trophy in 2007 and then came in 3rd place in 2008. He has been selected as one of the top 5 candidates for the 2009 award. He is also the first person to finish in the top 5 for the Heisman trophy three times, since Herschel Walker in the early 1980's.

Tebow and McCoy entered this season as heavy favorites
to contend for the Heisman Trophy again, but neither has played as well as last year and neither will go into Saturday's presentation as the clear favorite.

Florida loses to Alabama in SEC Title game

Alabama kept the Gator offense off of the field for much of the 2nd half, so there was not much Tebow could do but watch.

"It's tough. You know it's not how you want to go out," Tebow said. "They were just better than us today."

Alabama (13-0) moves on to Pasadena for the BCS championship game, an accomplishment they noted by passing out roses in the locker room. In fact, the school fight song, "Yea Alabama," refers to a long-ago Rose Bowl appearance.

Tebow and the Gators (12-1) will likely settle for the Sugar Bowl, denied a shot at their second straight national title and third in four years.

"Our standard was to be as good as Florida," Alabama linebacker Cory Reamer said. "Today, we were better than them."

Senior Day at the Swamp - Gators beat FSU

It was the last game in the Swamp for Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, David Nelson, and many other seniors on this years team. Yesterday's game was an emotional one for fans, players and coaches. Check the links below for a variety of posts by other bloggers and the media.

From USAToday.com:

"Fifteen broke down pretty good when he was coming through that tunnel," Meyer said of the Senior Day introductions, in which Tebow's eyes were filled with tears as he ran up and hugged his coach.

"It was special," Tebow said. "A memory I will always have."

From GATOR BYTES -Florida vs Florida State in photos:

It is not too early to say that Saturday’s football game between Florida and Florida State will go down as the most memorable game ever played in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

From TIMTEBLOG:

Tebow Swamp Finale

Again: The most powerful part of the game setting had nothing to do with anything that Tebow or Florida could control -- it was all about the fans.

From ESPN.com, Pat Forde writes "Generosity of spirit separates Tebow"

"I've never seen anything like it," Florida coach Urban Meyer said. "… He's made unselfish kind of a cool thing."

And a final thought...How often do you hear the scripture quoted during a football game? Sportscaster Vern Lundquist quoted Hebrews 12:12 incorrectly as Tebow's eye-black was Hebrews 12:1 & 2. But he did correct himself and went on to quote verse 1 during the second half of the game. Thanks to Tim Tebow for using his talent to spread the gospel!

1.Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the
right hand of the throne of God.

Special game at the Swamp - FL vs FSU

Gators play Florida State in the Swamp, Saturday at 3:30 pm

This will be a special game as Tebow plays his final game at home in Gainesville. Fans are even planning to wear eye-black in tribute to Tebow tomorrow.

  • This will be the last time the legendary Bobby Bowden coaches at Florida Field.

  • This will be the last time Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes and a special
group of seniors play in The Swamp.

  • This will be a Florida team trying to become only the second in school history to go 12-0.

Gators dominates FIU, as expected, 62-3

Tebow scores on a 55 yard run in the 1st quarter!

Unless you went to the game or chose to pay to watch the game televised (pay-per-view) then you had the afternoon off today as a Gator fan. Oh, I checked the score via the internet once, but as expected, the Gators dominated Florida International University Panthers in the Swamp. Even though Tebow started the 2nd half, it seems John Brantley was able to take over as quarterback for most of the second half.
It is a picture-perfect fall day in Gainesville, Fla. It's
sunny, cool and crisp at 72 degrees. Florida wins the toss and defers to the second half, so FIU will receive the opening kickoff.

Gators prevail over the Gamecocks, 24-14

This turned out to be a tough game for the Gators, but then I guess when playing former Gator coach Steve Spurrier, anything can happen. Click this link to read the recap and watch highlight video of the game. Gators defense prevailed and won the game, final score 24-14.

Ahead 24-14 after Tebow's score, Florida's defense got after the Gamecocks. The Gators sacked Garcia four times in the fourth quarter. Joe Haden's interception with two minutes left sealed Florida's 20th straight victory -- and fourth in a row over its former head ball
coach.

Offense sputters, but No. 1 Florida tops Vandy

Gators defeated Vanderbilt 27-3 in a not-so-exciting game. The next few games could be more challenging as the Gators still have to play the ol' ball coach and SC Gamecocks as well as the Florida State Seminoles. Both are always tough games for the Gators. Gators are now 9-0 for the year and should be headed to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game in December.

The Gators took advantage of Georgia mistakes to win big in Jacksonville today. And after Tebow broke the SEC record for rushing touchdowns, he asked the ref if he could keep that ball. Tebow went on to score two touchdowns today as the Gators rolled to a 41-17 win. For a recap of the game, click this link to ESPN.COM

Gators pull out a win over the Razorbacks, 23-20

I have to admit this was one of the most stressful wins of the season for me to watch, but Tim Tebow took over the offense in the 4th quarter and made things happen. Even with that, the score was still tied 20-20 with 9 seconds left in the game when Caleb Sturgis kicked the winning field goal. Arkansas obviously is a much better team than the one that lost to Alabama earlier in the season. They played well enough to win but the Gators pulled it out! Go Gators!
Click for recap , photos, videos, etc. at ESPN

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Tim Tebow stood on the sideline with his eyes closed. He couldn't bear to watch, not after seeing so much go wrong all afternoon.
Maybe he should have peeked.

After all, he missed what might go down as the most important field goal in
Florida history.

Gators over Troy Trojans, 56-6

The biggest surprise of the day was not the score, but that I was able to watch this game in Georgia. It was the SEC game of the week on Peachtree TV! Now that football season is over...

I can turn my attention the Gators basketball team, now that football season in over. I could have watched the BCS game repeat telecast this week but I didn't. So basketball season is really here! I have two favorite teams in college basketball and the Gators are one of those. (You will have to check my other blog to find out the name of the other team.) The Gators played a good game today against Arkansas and Florida won the game 80 - 65 . Sorry, my dear wife is from Arkansas so I can't brag too much! Nick Calathes (pictured at right) led the Gators with 28 points. The team is starting to gel, so I think we may be seeing these Gators during March Madness. (Click to read recap at ESPN)

"Tebow a hero at Philippine orphanage"

Gators coach Urban Meyer agreed, saying everything about Tebow is authentic.

"He doesn't fear anything," Meyer said. "A lot of people take their
heart out, rip it out of their chest and lay it on the table. I'm not willing to do that, and certainly not my family. His whole family's like that. Bob's that way and Pam. They expose themselves. They have such a strong faith. In this world of hypocrisy and nonsense, there's none.
