Gators - awesome win over Alabama, 31-20

The Gators are now # 1 in th AP poll and # 2 in the Coaches Poll and #2 in the BCS Poll, which means they play for the national championship against the Oklahoma Sooners. What an awesome win over Alabama on Saturday as the Gators peaked at just the right time this year! Tebow was terrific in the 4th quarter and according to his team "he willed" the victory over the Crimson Tide. Coach Urban Meyer (pictured with Tim Tebow during the 4th quarter) said "I think that fourth quarter was vintage Tebow." After the game, receiver Louis Murphy answered the reporter with this comment: “I can’t explain it any better than this: He’s a great God man and everything falls in line for him because of the way he lives.” (read more)

Gator update # 2 in the AP Poll

The Gators will be playing the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee this Saturday, Nov. 29th, at 3:30 pm (ABC) This will be one tough non-conference game before the SEC Championship on Dec. 6th. I expect the Gators will take care of business in Tally. The SEC title game could turn out to be the semi-final for the national championship game in January as the Gators are #2 in the AP poll this week just behind the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide, and the winner of this SEC title game most likely will be playing for the national championship. Go Gators!

romp in the swamp - Gators 70, Citadel 19

No surprise to anyone, but the Gators had an easy win today in the Swamp. It was the last home game of the season and the team was not looking ahead to next week's rivalry game at Florida State. Obviously, the final score of Florida 70, Citadel 19 could have been higher if Tim Tebow had played the entire game. Click to read recap of game at ESPN.com

Florida plays last home game of season against the Citadel

Florida Gators vs the Citadel Bulldogs at 1:30 PM today in the Swamp.

The game will be broadcast on Pay-per-view television only, so I am not sure if it will be available on line at 930thefox.com. The big question about this game is "How high will Florida score against the Citadel?" One sportscaster has already predicted the score to be 99-0. Hopefully it will not be that big of a blowout, but after the Gators beat the Gamecocks 56-6 last week anything is possible. The other big question of the day "Who will win in tonight's big game - Texas Tech or Oklahoma?" If Oklahoma wins the top two teams in next weeks polls could be Alabama and Florida. That would be an interesting turn of events.

The ol' ball coach, Steve Spurrier, returns to the swamp today. Spurrier won the Heisman trophy as QB for the Gators in the 60's and he returned to be the head coach in the 1990's. But now he returns as the coach of the Gamecocks. The Gators hope to spoil his reunion by beating them today. Game time is 3:30pm in the Swamp and will be on CBS TV. Read to preview at ESPN

Tebow's eye witness

We noticed a few weeks ago that Tim Tebow had something different in the blacks under his eyes. It took a few glances to figure out that under one eye it read "Phil" and under the other eye it read "4:13" - the TV camera men probably did not even notice it, but we knew it stood for a verse in the Bible in Philippians - chapter 4, verse 13 which reads "I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me." I have been looking for a photo of Tebow to post for a few weeks showing his eyes, so thanks to the Gainesville Sun (gatorsports.com) here it is. Read the article at gatorsports

Gators have an easy win over Vandy

This game was over by halftime and Tim Tebow played very little of the second half of the game. It will not help his Heisman numbers, but why score another 35 points in the second half? Coach Meyer and the Gators have their eyes on the SEC Championship game in December against Alabama. So let's hope they stay focused on the next week's game against the ol' ball coach Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks of SC.

Gator Bite

After watching the game again on TV this week, I decided to post a couple more links to articles about the "game of the year!" (not trying to rub it in!)

I was surprised but happy to open Sunday's local paper, the Gwinnett Daily Post, and find this huge photo of Tebow and the headline: "GATOR BITE"

The Florida quarterback said he sprained his ankle on a 4-yard run in the third quarter. He just as easily could have told everyone he hurt it kicking around Georgia.

After all, this was a Gator Stomp.

Another interesting take was published by the Atlanta Journal & Constitution:
"Richt sickened by Georgia’s loss to Florida"

"Kind of feeling kind of sick,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said Sunday of the team’s aftertaste.

Florida embarrasses Georgia, 49-10

"Florida waited a year to celebrate against Georgia -- and boy did the eighth-ranked Gators get to party." recap at ESPN.com

What a game! The Gators definitely embarrassed the Bulldogs in Jacksonville in a game with the SEC Championship game on the line. By the fourth quarter, most of the Bulldog fans had vanished, and I think when Georgia finally scored a touchdown near the end of the game, some of the Gator fans were applauding them. I was expecting a close game but Tebow and the Gators easily handled the Dawgs. I think we can expect to see Florida and Alabama in the SEC Championship game in December and if the Gators beat #2 Alabama for the SEC Championship then the National Championship game could be in the picture, too.

Gator team turnaround since loss to Ole Miss

The Gators have been a different team since the one-point loss to the Rebels. They've seemed more focused, more driven, more passionate. It is reflected in the results. . . Read the rest of the article at gatorsports.com

All quiet on the Reptile Front

From north of the border, the Atlanta Journal and Constitution published this article today about the lack of responses to "retaliation questions" from the Gator players . . .

About as close that anyone came to incitement was quarterback Tim Tebow, who said Sunday, “I want to encourage our fans to make it the most unbelievable atmosphere in Jacksonville, Florida, we’ve ever seen. And I believe they will. Hopefully, at the end of the game, it will be special.” read more at this link

Biggest FL - GA game ever!

Remember last year when the Georgia Bulldogs cleared their bench to celebrate that first touchdown? You may not, but I am sure that is all the Gators have been thinking about since then! As we Gator fans know, this is always the "Florida-Georgia" game to us, and it is played each year in the "Gator Bowl" in Jacksonville. So, Bulldogs beware! You are about to become "gator bait"
The celebration
There is no question that the end zone celebration by Georgia jump-started the rivalry. Florida fans are thirsty for revenge, Georgia fans think Florida fans are whiners. It has intensified the feelings for this game like never before. Florida-Georgia was always been intense but never like this.....read more at this link

Gators stun LSU winning 51-21

LSU came into the Swamp as the #3 team in the country, but the Gators offense took over and stunned the Tigers with a final score of 51-21. With Tim Tebow (15) at QB and Percy Harvin (1) as the receiver, the Gators handed the Tigers their first loss of the season.

Gators back in the winning column beating Razorbacks 38-7

In a sloppy game with over 20 flags, the Gators finally took over and are back in the winning column, beating the Razorbacks 38-7. Arkansas had plenty of chances to score, but they could not seem to get past the 40 yard line, except for the one touchdown.

Gators Face Razorbacks Oct 4th at 12:30 PM

I was out of town last Saturday, so I guess that is why the Gators lost! Of course, they only lost by one point - because of a missed extra punt after a touchdown that should have tied the game and sent it into overtime. Oh, yeah, a last second field goal could have won the game, but Coach Meyer decided to go for the 1st down on "4th and 1" instead of kicking a long field goal. If it was up to me, and my team was down by 1 point, I think I would have attempted the field goal. I know, I know, it was not up to me! So there was enough blame to go around for the whole team, I guess, if you are going to try to blame someone, just blame me (see first sentence above.)

Gator Headlines:
>>Tebow Sticking to pledge - Tebow vowed that the team would play harder than ever after the loss to Ole Miss: 30 - 31.
>>Harvin plans to improve - One of the best players on the team, Percy Harvin fumbled the ball for the first time since his freshman season. He has watched last week's game about six times so far.

Almost perfect game plan: UF 30, Tenn 6

I really enjoyed watching the Gators "hand it" to the Vols today. My wife took a nap during the second half, and then woke up and asked me if I watched the whole game since the score was 20-0 at half time. Yes, I watched the entire game, and it was great! The only thing better would have been to listen to the radio voice of the Gators saying "Oh, My ! " over and over. Actually it was enjoyable just watching the Vols self-destruct during this game. And I got my wish - I did not hear "Rocky Top" much today, or maybe it was drowned out by all the Tennessee fans booing their team!

It was quite humorous during the 2nd half, when one of the CBS announcers was observing that the Gators had played a perfect game - and right at that moment Tim Tebow walked back onto the field and the wire from Coach Meyer's headphones got caught on his uniform. Tebow pulled the headphones right off of his coach's head, and he did not even realize it. Coach Meyer's face went from intense concentration to a smile. Then the CBS announcer said, "Well almost perfect today!" as they replayed the scene again. That sums up the game today - the Gators performed and accomplished the game plan of the coaches and it was fun to watch. The Gator nation should be very happy today!

Gators ride out the storm to win: UF 26, Miami 3

The Miami Hurricanes played tough with the Gators until the 4th quarter Saturday night in the Swamp. But the Gators under the leadership of Tim Tebow survived the impact of the Hurricanes defense and took over the game in the last quarter. The score may look like a blow out, but if you watched the game you would know the score was still 9-3 going into that quarter. However, this was not a nail biter and I sensed that somehow the Gators offense would break down Miami's defense before this game was over! GO GATORS!

Gators are no. 5 in pre-season polls

Obviously not everyone expects the Gators to win the National Championship this year - just all of us in the Gator Nation! Both the AP and the USA Today/Coaches polls have the Gators as the no. 5 team to start the football season. I really believe the Gators can win all their games and I can't wait for the season to start.

College football season is just around the corner and this promises to be another exciting year for the Gators. thinking about vacation

As the month comes to an end and summer just beginning June 20th, we are looking forward to a much-deserved vacation. That is if any one really "deserves" a vacation! I can be thankful that my company benefits include several weeks of paid vacation. It is good to take time for rest & relaxation, and just get away from the daily grind. This summer we are heading to Arkansas for our vacation and look forward to seeing many of the family again. It has been a couple of years since we visited family. Last summer, my job moved me to Georgia, so we spent our vacation close to home in Florida.

Some of the possible tourist attractions we might see this year are:
Petit Jean State Park
Delta River Nature Center
Museum of Discovery
4th of July Pops on the River

Gators end football season with loss to the Wolverines

The Florida Gators played the Michigan Wolverines in Orlando today at the Capital One Bowl. It was an exciting and great game of football, except for the last two minutes when QB Tim Tebow through four incomplete passes to turn the game over on downs. Even though most of the starters were freshmen and sophs this year, they kept the game close - even with a couple of touchdowns taken back because of penalties. Michigan was determined to send their retiring head coach off with a win. Final score: Michigan 41, Florida 35
